Belden Unit Sues CommScope for Cable-Splitter Patent Royalties

Belden’s PPC Broadband unit said several MoCA cable splitters sold by CommScope infringe 16 patents for the technology, which allows broadband signals to reach their destinations through existing coaxial cables.

  • Belden is seeking cash compensation of at least a reasonable royalty and a court order blocking further unauthorized use of its inventions, according to complaint filed Friday in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware
  • Patents relate to Multimedia over Coaxial Alliance (MoCA) splitters, which deliver high-definition digital and data signals over existing coaxial cables
