Baxter Case Against CareFusion Alaris Pump Down to One Patent

The Patent and Trademark Office has given Becton Dickinson and Co.'s CareFusion unit another victory in challenges to Baxter International Inc.'s patents on medical infusion pumps.

Baxter asserted three patents in 2015 against CareFusion’s Alaris infusion pump system in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Baxter markets the competing pump, known alternatively as Colleague or Odyssey.

The case was stayed pending CareFusion’s petitions at the office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board, claiming the asserted patent claims were invalid for being not novel or obvious. With the stay now lifted, Baxter returns to court with a ...
