SAN FRANCISCO—The American Bankers Association is sending cease-and-desist letters to websites that post bank routing numbers claiming copyright to the bank routing numbers used by institutions, according to a June 26 statement.
The association said in a June 5 letter to website operator Greg Thatcher of San Francisco the websites are reproducing without authorization the nine-digit routing numbers, and claimed each of the 29,000 numbers is an “original copyrighted work carefully selected and arranged as a result of the ABA’s creativity.”
