Baker Botts Lawyer Aims to Trim Patent Owner’s Defamation Suit

A defense-side patent lawyer urged a South Florida federal court to throw out much of Leigh Rothschild’s defamation lawsuit against her over comments she made about the inventor and patent-monetization executive’s business model.

Rachael Lamkin of Baker Botts LLP said claims for intentional infliction of emotional distress, tortious interference with business relationships, and unfair and deceptive trade practices should be dismissed in the suit, which Rothschild filed in November after Lamkin said in a Bloomberg Law article that when seeking to recovery attorneys’ fees in cases involving the prolific patent plaintiff’s companies, “we never get the money because the shells ...
