Australia Passes Patent Reform Law

The Australian Parliament has passed the Intellectual Property Laws Amendment (Raising the Bar) Bill 2011 without amendment on March 20, 2012. The bill was passed by the Senate on February 27 then by the House of Representatives on March 20. The changes in the bill are subject to regulations that are yet to be published.

What are the Changes?

The bill seeks to strengthen and improve Australia’s legislative framework for protecting intellectual property by giving greater certainty to both applicants and other parties.
