Assa Abloy Unit Wins $45 Million in Security-System Patent Trial

A federal jury in Delaware awarded Assa Abloy AB’s HID Global Corp. $45 million after finding Vector Flow Inc. infringes a patent for security-system management and stole two related trade secrets.

Jurors awarded $38.9 million for the misappropriation and $6.1 million in lost profits for infringement, according to a verdict issued Jan. 23 and docketed Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Delaware. They found that both the theft and the infringement were intentional, giving the judge the option to increase the damages to as much as triple the amounts awarded.
