Ascension Health Sued Over Second Data Breach in Eight Months

St. Louis-based Ascension Health was hit with two proposed class actions over a December 2024 data breach that allegedly exposed the personal information of tens of thousands of patients.

The breach was the second to hit the health care system in less than 8 months, according to nearly identical complaints filed May 2 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

Jacqueline Tapia and Isabella Casanova alleged in separate lawsuits that Ascension breached its duties under common law, contract law, industry standards, the Federal Trade Commission Act, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act to implement ...
