Arm’s Challenge of Chip Patent Sold by Intel Revived at USPTO

The acting head of the US Patent and Trademark Office restored Arm Ltd.'s validity challenge to a chip patent after initially denying the petition.

The balance of discretionary denial factors now weighs in favor of reviewing the petition since litigation involving the patent has settled, Acting Director Coke Morgan Stewart said in a decision issued August 6. The order reverses Stewart’s May decision denying Arm, which provides the most widely used technology in computing chips, and Mediatek Inc.'s petition to invalidate US Patent No. 8,984,228 due to a fast-upcoming trial in Texas federal court.
