Apple Wins Revival of Challenge to Mobile Phone Camera Patent

Apple Inc. convinced the Federal Circuit to revive its challenge to Corephotonics Ltd’s cellphone camera patent that allegedly lets users take portraits where the subject is in focus against a blurry background.

The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Monday ruled the Patent Trial and Appeal Board improperly rejected Apple’s attack on Corephotonics by inappropriately leaning on a typographical mistake that neither side thought was material, as well as on other errors the PTAB independently identified in the parties’ arguments.
