Apple Inc. won an appeals court ruling that throws out a $234 million verdict obtained by the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s licensing arm over microprocessor technology.
“No reasonable juror could have found infringement” of the patent, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington said in an opinion posted on its electronic docket.
Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, the licensing arm, had persuaded jurors in the trial court that Apple’s A7, A8, and A8X chips in the iPhone 5s and iPad infringed the patent for a way computer processors execute instructions.
