Apple Wins Appeal Against Speech Recognition Patent in Siri Suit

The Federal Circuit summarily affirmed an administrative tribunal ruling that nixed part of a patent that Apple Inc. was accused of infringing with its Siri technology.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld the decision with no explanation, delivering another win to Apple, according to the judgment. The Patent Trial and Appeal Board found that the challenged claims in Advanced Voice Recognition Systems Inc.'s patent were invalid because the claims would have been obvious based on previous inventions.
