Apple Hit With Patent Lawsuit Over iPhone, iPad Camera Tech

Apple Inc. faces a new federal lawsuit alleging it used patented camera technology in dozens of iPhones and iPads without a license.

Clear Imaging Research LLC accused Apple of infringing seven of its patents for popular camera features — including for the technology behind Portrait Mode, Cinematic Mode, and Video Image Stabilization. According to the complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California on April 14, two of the patents weren’t issued until April 11—just three days before the lawsuit was filed.
