Apple Knocks Out Uniloc’s Fitness Monitoring Patent

Apple won its bid at the Patent and Trademark Office to invalidate the claims a fitness monitoring patent at the center of an infringement lawsuit against the company.

The Patent and Trademark Appeal Board found all 32 claims of U.S. Patent No. 6,736,759 unpatentable due to obviousness. Uniloc USA Inc. had sued Apple in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleging that Apple watches infringed the patent for a monitoring system that included a positioning device and physiological monitor for physical activities.
