Apple Beats Masimo Unenforceability Claim as Patent Trial Looms

Masimo Corp. can’t challenge the enforceability of Apple Inc.’s patents covering smartwatch components’ design and functionality at a jury trial this month, a federal judge ruled, finding Masimo failed to prove Apple intentionally deceived the US Patent and Trademark Office.

“A reasonable factfinder could not conclude that Masimo has shown specific intent to deceive by clear and convincing evidence,” Judge Jennifer L. Hall wrote in an opinion issued Monday in the US District Court for the District of Delaware, granting Apple’s bid for judgment on Masimo’s inequitable conduct counterclaim.
