Apple Beats Majority of Two Alivecor Heart Monitoring Patents

Apple Inc. persuaded the US Patent and Trademark Office to completely invalidate one AliveCor Inc. patent covering a heart monitoring system, and mostly cancel another.

US Patent No. 9,649,042 is entirely unpatentable because it’s obvious considering previous inventions, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said in an order issued Thursday, but ruled that three of US Patent No. 8,509,882‘s 13 claims should survive.

Apple’s win against AliveCor in their years-long battle over technology used in Apple Watches comes on the heels of a US International Trade Commission decision that could result in a ban on certain Apple Watch models. ...
