AP Files Copyright, Hot News Suit Against Meltwater

Online commercial clipping service Meltwater is committing direct and secondary copyright infringement, as well as “hot news” misappropriation, by distributing excerpts and full-text copies of Associated Press news stories to paying customers in direct competition with AP, the Associated Press alleged in a Feb. 14 complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (Associated Press v. Meltwater U.S. Holdings Inc.).
