Anthropic to Appeal Class Certification in AI Copyright Case

Anthropic PBC wants to pause a copyright lawsuit over its training of generative AI until the Ninth Circuit addresses its appeal of the judge’s recent certification of some plaintiff authors as a class.

Anthropic said Thursday it will petition the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit for permission to make an early appeal of the July 17 ruling, which certified a class of authors whose books were downloaded from pirated websites.
