Anthropic PBC won dismissal of the bulk of music publishers’ claims in a suit accusing the artificial intelligence company of violating copyright law by training its model on protected song lyrics.
Publishers including Universal Music Corp. and Concord Music Group Inc. failed to establish infringement by third-party users or that Anthropic had knowledge of users’ infringement, according to a Wednesday order filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
The court dismissed publishers’ claims of contributory infringement, vicarious infringement, and removal of copyright management information, with leave to amend.
