Anthropic CEO Amodei Must Face Deposition in Copyright Lawsuit

Anthropic PBC CEO Dario Amodei must sit for a deposition in music publishers’ lawsuit accusing the company of copyright infringement over its AI training process, a California federal judge ruled Thursday.

Magistrate Judge Susan van Keulen rejected Anthropic’s arguments that Amodei doesn’t possess unique knowledge about the company’s AI training and granted publishers’ request.

The publishers’ argued the deposition is necessary because depositions of Anthropic’s other founders confirmed he was “intimately involved” in the training of the company’s AI models. Further, the other founders have been unable or unwilling to testify to “key” information solely within Amodei’s knowledge, publishers said. ...
