Annie Leibovitz Licensing Agency’s ‘Star Wars’ Photo Suit Axed

Photographer Annie Leibovitz’s licensing agency can’t sue an online magazine for copyright infringement over using a picture of the “Star Wars” movie cast because it doesn’t hold exclusive rights to her work, a Florida federal judge ruled.

Consequence Sound LLC won its bid for summary judgment because Leibovitz’s agreement with Great Bowery Inc. to license, market, and promote her work said she retains ownership of the copyrights, Judge Robin L. Rosenberg said in an opinion decided July 1 and filed Tuesday.
