Amazon’s Web Service Customers Free From Follow-on Patent Suits

Amazon.com Inc. convinced the Federal Circuit that its web service customers don’t have to face patent infringement suits after a suit against Amazon involving the same patent was dismissed.

Patent owner PersonalWeb Technologies dismissed an earlier case in which it argued Amazon’s web storage services infringed eight of its patents on accessing data files. PersonalWeb can’t turn around and sue Amazon’s customers for infringing some of the same patents, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled.
