Amazon Sues Over Work-at-Home Telemarketing Scheme

Amazon.com Inc. claims its good name was used in a telemarketing scheme to swindle job seekers into buying unaffiliated website services, according to a new federal lawsuit.

Illinois marketing company First Impression Interactive Inc. used prerecorded phone messages that falsely claimed to be recruiting for work-at-home opportunities with Amazon, the retail giant claimed. The messages allegedly directed victims to domains that unlawfully used the company’s brand, like amazonprofits.org and amazonwealth.org.

When victims typed these domains into a browser, however, they were redirected to domains controlled by Cash Network LLC, First Impression’s affiliate marketing network, Amazon said.
