Amazon Sued for Infringing ‘Bonus Content’ Streaming Patents

A company that owns patents related to video streams of “bonus content” sued Amazon.com Inc. for infringement in Texas federal court Jan. 3.

Amazon Video’s “X-Ray” technology allegedly infringes four MONKEYmedia Inc. patents by allowing users to access optional content such as actor bios, videos, and trivia during the stream and then resume the stream where it left off, the complaint says.

MONKEYmedia Inc. owns U.S. Patent Nos. 6,393,158; 9,185,379; 9,247,226; and 10,051,298 covering a method for pausing and switching a main video stream to “bonus content” such as behind-the-scenes footage, previews, and product details. The company said it notified ...
