Amazon Narrows DivX Fight to One Streaming Patent Before Trial

Amazon.com Inc.'s video-streaming services, devices, and encoding systems don’t infringe four of DivX LLC’s five remaining asserted patents, leaving one patent for trial, a Virginia federal judge ruled.

Judge Michael S. Nachmanoff mostly granted Amazon’s motion for summary judgment in an opinion issued Monday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, but he rejected its bid for a finding that Amazon’s streaming devices don’t infringe US Patent No. 10,542,303.

The ’303 patent, which covers systems and methods for protecting compressed video streams containing independently encoded tiles, expires in December 2035, Bloomberg Law estimates.
