Epistar reached out to Amazon in 2019 upon discovering that some of the tech giant’s products, such as its Echo devices, “appeared to practice inventions protected by one or more patents” in its “vast portfolio” of more than 1,500 US patents, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.
