Amazon Dismissal Bids Mostly Rejected in Streaming Patent Suits

Amazon.com Inc. failed to convince a Virginia federal judge to dismiss two lawsuits filed by AudioPod IP LLC concerning content streaming technology.

Judge Roderick Young rejected Amazon’s argument that five patents were invalid for covering abstract ideas, according to a memorandum opinion filed Monday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The judge mostly denied Amazon’s motions to dismiss, but did grant dismissal of claims against Amazon subsidiary Audible Inc., finding that they were not made in the proper venue.
