Amazon Accuses Company of ‘Widespread’ Alexa Tech Support Fraud

Amazon.com Inc. accused a Washington company in Seattle federal court of using its trademarks to “perpetrate a widespread tech support fraud” targeting users of Alexa-enabled devices like the Echo smart speaker.

The complaint says Robojap Technologies LLC and its Indian affiliate Quatic Software Solutions Pvt. Ltd.'s websites and mobile apps impersonate the Alexa app and then present fake error messages, tricking users into calling a fake customer support line and paying hundreds of dollars to “take the simple steps actually required to activate an Alexa device.”
