Amazon Accused of Using Stolen 3D Body-Scan Secrets in Halo App

Amazon.com Inc. and its Body Labs unit in part created the Halo mobile app by ripping off technology that uses customers’ photos from smartphones and tablets to create three-dimensional body-volume avatars, a UK company alleges.

Britain-based Select Research Ltd. accuses Amazon and Body Labs of patent infringement and misappropriating its trade secrets after getting an inside look at the 3D body-imaging technology in a series of confidential discussions that started in early 2015, according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday in the Sherman division of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
