A musician has dropped his claim that Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” ripped off country pop group Vince Vance & the Valiants’ song of the same name.
Andy Stone had demanded $60 million in damages in his copyright infringement, unjust enrichment, and Lanham Act complaint filed in June in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The complaint said Stone co-wrote and recorded the song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” in 1989, five years before Carey’s song was released on her “Merry Christmas” album.
Stone voluntarily dismissed the suit without prejudice ...
