A Texas federal judge awarded Alert Media Inc. attorneys’ fees after finding a patent-monetization company dragged out litigation beyond the point when it realized it couldn’t win.
Judge Alan Albright of the US District Court for the Western District of Texas ordered Verna IP Holdings LLC to pay Alert Media $48,076, in a pair of orders signed Aug. 22 and released Monday. That sum represents a fraction of the more than $400,000 in legal fees Alert Media sought after complaining Verna filed a pair of “bad faith” lawsuits designed “to extract a nuisance settlement,” according to Albright’s order.
