AI Warning Bill Dies in Final Hours of NY Legislative Session

New York AI companies have avoided what would have been the nation’s first state legal mandate to warn users about the technology’s potential for generating error-ridden or inappropriate text and images.

The state Assembly adjourned Saturday without passing a measure (S.B. 9450) that would have placed such requirements on owners, licensees, and operators of generative AI systems.

The state Senate passed the bill, which would have imposed fines of as much as $100,000, on Thursday.
