Researchers and students at universities, nonprofits, and federally funded agencies would gain access to powerful computational tools and educational resources to develop artificial intelligence under bipartisan legislation introduced Friday.
Leaders of the congressional AI caucus—Reps. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.), Michael McCaul (R-Texas), Don Beyer (D-Va.), and Jay Obernolte (R-Calif.)—proposed the creation of a shared research infrastructure, dubbed the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource, in an effort to uphold the US global lead in AI and expand the pool of talent developing the tech, according to legislation first obtained by Bloomberg Government.
