A California measure that would enact nation-leading safeguards to curb public safety risks generated by artificial intelligence faces pressure to be pared down because of the state’s budget deficit and tech opposition.
The bill (S.B. 1047) by state Sen. Scott Wiener (D) has so far garnered broad support, as two committees approved the measure this month with no opposing votes.
