Songs created using generative AI don’t infringe the copyrights protecting music the model was trained on, AI developer Suno Inc. told a federal court as it seeks to trim a proposed class action.
Suno said country artist Anthony Justice and his recording company 5th Wheel Records Inc.'s complaint wrongly alleges AI-generated music outputs are infringing “derivative works.” That output claim—which hadn’t previously been brought against the company—should be nixed from the suit, Suno said in a motion to dismiss filed Aug. 18 in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
