A North Carolina man sued ADT Inc. for allegedly failing to protect the personal information of 5.5 million customers after hackers breached the security company’s systems.

Maurice Beckwith filed the class action lawsuit Tuesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The complaint alleges ADT stored customer data unencrypted on internet-accessible networks, making it vulnerable to cyberattacks.

The filing claims the ShinyHunters ransomware group used an employee’s login credentials via a voice phishing attack to obtain data, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers and Tax IDs, which it has already published on the dark web. ...
