Adobe’s Win in Security Patent Case Partly Reversed by Fed. Cir.

Adobe Inc. owes no damages for directly infringing file-transmission security patents, but must face anew TecSec Inc.'s claims that it induced others to infringe, the Federal Circuit said Friday.

TecSec sued Adobe for allegedly infringing four patents related to multi-level security for files transmitted over a data network. A Virginia federal jury found Adobe directly infringed but didn’t induce others to infringe, after the court excluded evidence of induced infringement from after March 3, 2011.

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia also reduced TecSec’s $1.75 million jury award to zero, finding its evidence “could support damages ...
