Abiomed Loses Non-Infringement Bid in Heart-Pump Patent Case

Abiomed Inc. failed to convince a federal judge its heart pumps avoid infringing a Maquet Cardiovascular LLC patent because they use different technology that may work in a similar way.

Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV denied Abiomed’s bid for a partial summary judgment ruling of no infringement under the doctrine of equivalents in an opinion issued Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
