ABBA Accuses ‘ABBA Mania’ Cover Band of Infringing on Trademark

The Swedish pop music group ABBA is suing a British cover band for infringing on its famous mark in the tribute band’s promotion and ticket sales, according to a New York Federal court.

Polar Music International AB, which handles ABBA’s business, alleged in a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York that the British entertainment company Handshake Ltd. is trying to use the mark to boost an ABBA cover band. The “Waterloo” performers didn’t give permission for the cover band, ABBA Mania, to use their mark, according to the suit.
