5 Seconds of Summer Hit Allegedly Copied From Hungarian Pop Song

Australian pop band 5 Seconds of Summer’s 2018 hit “Youngblood” steals from a song featured in a Hungarian song competition, a July 15 complaint in the Northern District of Texas says.

Musicians David Henderson, David Toth, and Peter Ferencz said that “Youngblood” uses identical melodic phrases to their song “White Shadows.”

Henderson performed “White Shadows” on a televised competition in 2017 to choose Hungary’s entry to the Eurovision song contest. The song advanced two stages to the semifinals, and Henderson’s performances were posted on YouTube. “White Shadows” was also available on iTunes and Spotify, the complaint says.
