Zoetis Challenges Tariffs on Livestock Antibiotic From China

Zoetis Services LLC Inc. challenges certain U.S. duties applied to its imports from China of a substance containing broad-spectrum livestock antibiotics, arguing to a federal trade court that customs officials should have classified the entries as “medicaments.”

“Chlortetracycline Concentrate Feed Grade Powder” consists of the broad-spectrum antibiotic Chlortetracycline mixed with a mycelial cake and inorganic salts, according to Zoetis’ complaint filed Thursday at the U.S. Court of International Trade. The concentrate is used to manufacture products to treat and control a range of respiratory and enteric diseases in livestock, including bacterial pneumonia, bacterial enteritis, and anaplasmosis, the company says.
