The fate of President Donald Trump’s trade war lies in the hands of the courts as a legal battle plays out over his use of emergency powers to impose tariffs.

The US Court of International Trade ruled on May 28 that the vast majority of Trump’s levies were issued illegally and ordered them blocked. Just a day later, an appeals court gave the Trump administration a
temporary reprieve from the ruling and subsequently decided that the tariffs can remain in place until it hears the case, scheduling the arguments for July 31.
