Early counting in Australia’s election showed strong results for the center-left Labor government as well as independent lawmakers, with polling booths now closed across the country.

With voting concluded in the final state of Western Australia at 8 p.m. Sydney time, early results have seen a swing toward the ruling Labor Party in many seats held by the opposition Liberal-National Coalition. However, with a large number of pre-election day votes still to be counted, the early trends may not be maintained.
