US Trade Deficit Widens to $91.5 Billion, Most in Three Months

The US merchandise-trade deficit widened for a second-straight month in January as the value of imports advanced more than exports.

The shortfall increased 2% to $91.5 billion last month, the widest in three months, Commerce Department data showed Tuesday. The figures, which aren’t adjusted for inflation, compared with a median estimate for a gap of $91 billion in a Bloomberg survey of economists.

Exports grew 4.2% to $173.8 billion. Imports rose 3.4%, but more in dollar terms, to $265.3 billion.
