PARIS—The United Arab Emirates will on April 1 join an international system that will authorize U.A.E. customs officials to accept ATA carnets, so-called “passports for goods” that allow business representatives to make temporary, duty-free imports of commercial materials, the International Chamber of Commerce said Feb. 22.
The ATA carnet system, managed by the ICC World Chambers Federation, uses a private customs document that grants exemption from duties, taxes, and other charges for import and export, for up to one year, of such commercial materials as camera equipment, computers, repair tools, scientific and medical equipment, fine arts, jewelry, clothing, automobiles, and ...
