U.S. to Probe If Vietnamese Plywood Imports Violate China Duties

The U.S. Commerce Dept opens an investigation into whether imports of hardwood plywood completed in Vietnam, but using components from China, circumvent existing duty orders on similar products coming from China, according to statement.

  • Commerce to review whether those imports also are covered by the scope of existing antidumping and countervailing duty orders on plywood from China
    • If Commerce determines plywood from Vietnam circumvents existing orders, or that the plywood is within the scope of existing orders, U.S. will begin collecting cash deposits on future imports
  • Inquiry initiated after requests from Coalition for Fair Trade in Hardwood Plywood
