Trump Set to Keep Tariff Exemption for USMCA Goods: US Official

President Donald Trump plans to raise the 25% tariff rate on Canada to 35% on Aug. 1 but leave a USMCA exemption unchanged, a US official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

  • USMCA compliant goods poised to continue to be exempt from levies
    • 10% tariff on some Canadian products not set to be changed
  • Official cautions the plan is fluid and not yet in writing
