Techtronic’s Bid to Block Copycat Ryobi Batteries to Be Probed

The U.S. International Trade Commission has launched an investigation into a request by Techtronic and its One World Technologies to block imports of unauthorized rechargeable 18v lithium-ion batteries for Ryobi One+ tools.

  • The patented designs of the batteries are being copied without permission by more than a dozen Chinese companies that are selling their cheaper products under names including Topbatt, Reoben and Biswaye, Techtronic said in its complaint
  • NOTE: The batteries are used for a range of Ryobi tools, including drills, saws and leaf blowers sold at Home Depot stores
