Serbia May Ban Arms Exports as Tensions With Kosovo Escalate (1)

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said his government will likely ban the export of ammunition and weapons, citing the need to protect national security amid mounting tensions with neighboring Kosovo.

Vucic said conditions were deteriorating for ethnic Serbs in Kosovo and that he plans to seek a United Nations Security Council meeting to advance concerns over protecting the Serb minority. Northern Kosovo has been engulfed in the worst ethnic violence in a decade since May, with clashes between Kosovo’s mostly ethnic Albanian police and local Serbs embroiling NATO peacekeepers in the region.
