Port of LA Imports Jumped More Than 26% in May From Year Earlier

Import volumes through the Port of Los Angeles jumped more than 26% last month, a solid showing from a year earlier when President Donald Trump’s tariffs were at their highest.

“Cargo demand is resilient despite everything happening in the world right now,” Port of LA Executive Director Gene Seroka told reporters Tuesday.

In May, the LA port handled a total of 840,164 containers measured in 20-foot equivalent units, or TEUs, up 17.2% compared with the same month last year. Imports made up 449,370 of the total, and loaded exports fell by 10.4% to 107,656 TEUs. Empty containers climbed by nearly ...
