Pilgrim’s Pride Gets Surprise Trade War Boost for Chicken Demand

Pilgrim’s Pride Corp., the second-biggest chicken producer in the U.S., is getting a surprise boost from Donald Trump’s trade wars as poultry demand in Mexico climbs.

Mexico has long been the biggest buyer of U.S. ham, but trade strife between the countries has hampered pork shipments. As a result, there’s a lot less competition for chicken from Pilgrim’s Pride in the Latin American country. A gain for demand in Mexico helped the poultry producer on July 31 report adjusted earnings per share in the second quarter that beat the highest analyst estimate.
